Resident unhappy about possible changes to vehicle ordinance
GUEST EDITORIAL
In regards to the proposed change to Chapter 8.52 of the Moses Lake Municipal Code, "Residential Vehicle Storage," City Manager Joe Gavinski states, "the proposed amendment changes the enforcement methodology." Using the word methodology rather than process, practice or procedure has an ominously foreboding sound outside the word of law. Methodology may better be applied to philosophy, logic or theology not, people, homes and cars. In any terms, the proposed amendment will eliminate an essential part of the ordinance. Albeit intrusive, invasive and in all probability unconstitutional as it is, to remove the current notice of violation and order to correct or cease activity will do away with the earliest essential indication to a citizen that someone has complained against them to the city. It will not allow the individual that first fundamental opportunity to respond or comply outside of a courtroom. As disagreeable as it exists today, the notice of violation is a practice that more affably informs a citizen of a possible violation. The status quo is a far friendlier procedure than to "simply require the payment of a fine with every violation". The current notice of violation may also avert any possible or very probable enforcement mistake on the part of the City.

Dr. Walt Horan and Dr. Justin Fevold are truly caring and knowledgeable Audiologists. Their dedication to provide the best care to their patients are evident by just walking in the door. I would highly recommend this practice without reservation!
Mike Iliff
Dr. Fevold and Horan are respected colleagues who provide their patients with the utmost professional care and service. I highly recommend them to anyone needing hearing, balance or tinnitus treatment.
D'Anne Rudden
There is no better hearing care in all of Washington State! The expertise, the caring manner and personal touch makes this office second to none. Go see Drs. Horan and Fevold. You will not regret it!
Jerry Billingsley, Wenatchee, WA
I have had hearing aids for many years and they are a must for my connection to the world around me. Dr. Fevold fine tunes my hearing aids as needed. The professionalism of Dr. Fevold and the office staff is unsurpassed.
Roger Pollock, Wenatchee, WA
The use of hearing aids has benefitted me as well as my family so much as now i can hear my grandchildren's stories, my wife's directions and even the TV! My daily life has changed significantly. I have recommended Horan & Fevold Hearing Clinic to many friends and relatives over the past years. Walt Horan, my audiologist has been a wonderful friend and is always there to help me with my hearing aids. He is always available to listen to me and help me in anyway he Can: he has spent quality time and care with my situation. The valuable aspect of my experience with Walt and his staff is that they are always friendly and ready to help in anyway they can. This clinic is #1 in my book!
Flora Lancaster, Orondo, WA
I have worn hearing aids for 30 years. I recently chose the new Lyric extended wear devices that are in the canal. I felt Justin Fevold was very interested in helping me choose the hearing aid that was right for me. I am starting my fifth month with the Lyric hearing aids and I could not be happier. I wish everyone with a hearing loss could experience what I have.
Earl Pickering, East Wenatchee, WA
The new state-of-the-art hearing aids have come along way in making them "user friendly." My latest pair have no "whistling" annoyance which I really appreciate. I highly recommend the Phonak Audeo S Smart hearing aid to people so they can keep up with others in hearing what they say.
Helen Moir, Oroville, WA
I was having more and more trouble hearing conversations, especially in noisy environments like parties or riding in vehicles. I had to ask both family and friends to repeat their comments to me many times. I went in for a hearing test and met Justin Fevold. He was pleasant and caring and calmed my anxiety about the test. After telling me about the extent of my hearing loss, Dr. Fevold suggested hearing aids. I have worn my aids for about 14 months and adapted to them quickly. Dr. Fevold has made my visits to Horan Fevold Hearing Clinic pleasant experiences.
Doris Rodin, East Wenatchee, WA
Even though I had been wearing hearing aids for some time, I found myself constantly turning up the TV, missing out on family conversations, hearing strange sermons, and making weird comments to what I though I heard. My husband's ribs were sore from me poking and asking "What'd they say?" So I went to see Dr. Walt Horan. He gave me a hearing test and found my hearing had changed drastically over the years. He fit me with digital hearing aids that were so small and light I hardly knew I had them on. He said to wear them for a while (with no obligation) and see if they made a difference. Absolutely amazing! It was a whole new world of hearing for me.

They have the coaches, the engineers and some of the tools and some of the funds they need to reach the next level of FIRST Robotics Competition, and qualify for 18 million dollars of college scholarships. They work each summer to earn funds for the team, by having a Day camp and doing concessions in the park. But one thing is holding them back, and it seems to be everywhere you look in Moses Lake ... An empty building, shop or garage to meet and build in. It does not have to be nice or new, almost anything will do. They have asked everyone they can think of, and no one is willing to let these kids have the space to build an eighteen inch robot with a twelve foot square practice field; which is the first step to their educational goals and dreams! It seems so simple, find someone who needs the tax donation for helping out the kids of a 5013c. IF you or anyone you know, might have a space to help out these kids, PLEASE PLEASE, call Kat 760-4589 with the Camp Fire FIRST Robotics Teams of Moses Lake.

Reader wonders about the state of America
As I listen to the news every day, it is hard not to get depressed about what has happened to our once great country. I often ask myself how this current situation happened. We now have a President who believes in redistribution of wealth and is willing to destroy the best healthcare system in the world in order to achieve his goal of "equality of outcome." He and his party don't care that they are spending one trillion dollars more every year than they take in. We now have more people collecting government checks than working full time. We pay Americans not to work at the same time we encourage illegal immigrants to pour into our country. We have several huge entitlement programs that were set up as ''Ponzi Schemes" that are about to bankrupt our country, but we have very few in Congress with the guts to do anything for fear of not being reelected. It is mind-boggling to think this President was elected and re-elected to enact his ''fundamental transformation" of America! It recently all became clear to me however as I heard a news report about a national poll that was conducted last month. In a poll of several thousand registered Democrats, 68% said they supported the Affordable Care Act, while only 32% said they supported Obamacare. For you Obama supporters: they are the same thing! Now we know.

Together they raised four children: Larry Ray, Douglas Hal, Rennae Annette, and Emily Jo (Jodie) in Tiffany Township; where Lila was also involved in the Tiffany Homemakers Club. When Lynn and Lila sold their farm to Billy and Ida Tedrow, the Rosenberg's moved into town where Lynn became a John Deere mechanic. Lila stayed busy with family, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Whitefish, Montana was the next home this family saw. Lynn & Lila co-owned a Gambles Hardware Store with his brother Bob & Nina Rosenberg. A job opportunity in Othello, WA called the Rosenberg's to go West one more time! Back to a John Deere shop for Lynn while Lila resumed her position as the awesome Mom (both to us kids and all of our friends!) plus her activities within her Paradise Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Later, once the kids were out of the house Lynn and Lila retired to Warden, WA. After Lynn's passing, Lila kept busy playing Pinochle at the Senior Center. And of course, she enjoyed watching her grandsons grow! At 84, Lila decided God's home was where she wanted to be. Prayers were answered and God took her home after about two months of serious illness. "We love ya, Mom! Your love and recipe cards for Bar-B-Q's and your Holy Baked Beans will live on forever!" Lila requested to have a plain wooden casket and a grave side service at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Warden, WA. Plans are for the service at 10 AM Thursday, January 15, 2014.

Marie Giersdorf went to be with the Lord on January 2nd, 2014. Marie was born in Bemidji, Minnesota on August 28th, 1927, as the sixth child of Ed and Josephine Golly. Marie's older siblings were Florence Wakeman, Edwin Golly, Jay Golly, Alice McNiece and Loraine Golly. Her youngest sister, June Jerman, survives her today. She moved to Washington in 1942 and married Louis Giersdorf in Moses Lake, Washington on August 30, 1945 after graduating high school in Bemidji. She was a blessed, beloved wife and stay at home mother of four children: Linda Millard, Ed Giersdorf, Debbie Volkmann and Les Giersdorf. The family lived in Moses Lake on and off for a period of 30 years, only leaving there to follow work that took them in their travels from Oklahoma to Alaska. Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Louis Giersdorf, the proclaimed love of her life. Also preceding her passing by 13 1/2 years, was her oldest son, Ed Giersdorf. Spuds, grapes and internet
This issue is the cause of a feverish work pace and early ad deadlines. The focus is on potatoes, particularly the Washington and Oregon Potato Conference held in Kennewick and put on by the Washington Potato Commission. Even though we try to cover all aspects of agriculture throughout the year our January issue is largely a big spud. But let's not forget January's Real Ag Show and the Washington Hay Expo held the earlier in January. These are two great trade shows and conferences held in Tri-Cities and managed by Ag Management, Inc. in Kennewick. You'll also see a lot of information about the Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers' trade show that takes place in early February. Every event offers sales and networking opportunities. A great quote I heard once was "if everybody is going to eat, somebody has to sell" Whether looking for new products to improve what you do, or selling products you produce, everybody is in the sales business. Each trade show, conference and convention offers opportunities.

Reader weighs in on how courts work
Don't understand how our courts work, first of all they're over booked they violate there own rules like the right to a speedy trial, those incarcerated think they're getting a good deal but they're really getting railroaded by their attorneys. I believe if you have more than one charge all charges should run concurrent. I'm not an attorney but seen so many cases how they're charged even if they're innocent and lies to get a conviction. And how juries are used to make a conviction they say jury of your own peers. Who are we kidding? Those on immigration hold how they're treated they say their stories but I've seen first hand. Many that are deported are executed, killed in others countries. So they'll try to come back to the land of opportunity. There are other foreign in this country that live better and receive more help from the state. What's wrong with this picture? Certain families are targeted by our courts. See how many times ones been in prison some people like my son Gabriel Toscano and my nephew Michael Castoreno. Where is the justice? In our courts I've seen a rapist get three days and murderers get better offers. What about these families that go through a life sentence with grief?

Grandparents grateful for ice rescue
We would like to thank the people that rescued our son and grandson from Moses Lake Saturday afternoon, December 14. Coming back from Spokane, they decided to stop and play on the ice. Our 8 year old grandson fell through the ice. When his father tried to rescue him, he also fell through. Our 15 year old granddaughter called for help and some nearby fishermen came to the rescue. Our son was able to help our grandson out of the water and one of the fishermen threw our son a rope so he could climb out. They were both out of the water by the time the firemen arrived, and neither of them required any medical attention. With great thankfulness to God, the men who came to their rescue, and the Moses Lake Fire Department, we are celebrating Christmas this year with our son and his entire family.

El Rancho Motel is a fine place to stay if you are passing through Moses Lake, WA. Clean rooms, decent mattresses, quiet, well insulated, easy access. Owner is polite and does the cleaning himself. I will stay here again.
Rust-E-Junque
Nice , clean room - No frills , but I usually don't care about frills! It was clean , comfortable , and resonable ... I'm gonna sleep most of the time I'm there , so what more do I need!!
supercrew
From a hunters point, the El Rancho is the best. A great place to come "Home" to ,warm shower, good beds, and if you desire a place to cook. Terry has come to the aid to myself and partner when stranded in the sand,,,,,Thanks. It was even his wedding anniversary, so a tip and great thanks he has earned, plus a return client.. Thanks Terry, See ya next hunting season.
TdbH
I have now stayed at El Rancho at least half a dozen times, and I always have a very pleasant experience. Terry is hands on about every little thing, and I have received immediate attention to any little detail that needs to be handled--graciously and kindly, I might add. I'm not sure about "no frills" since I appreciate the spaciousness and touches like an additional sink area outside the main bathroom and a kitchenette, if you need one, is available as an option. I even appreciate a clock radio I don't need an owners manual to figure out that works, and a hard-wired internet connection for no fee. I'll be back.
DrHedrick
This is the second time I have stayed at the El Rancho in Moses Lake in 10 years. The cliché that looks can be deceiving applies here... but in a good way. The rooms are very basic, but comfortable. The owner is pleasant and helpful. The prices cannot be beat. $38 per night for this no frills, yet has all the essentials motel. If you need a place to stay in Moses Lake and don't need all the overhead of a typical hotel, then you need to stay here.
