Othello teacher appreciates Newspapers in Education program

My name is Kandice Woodard, and I am the English teacher at Desert Oasis High School in Othello. Due to your generosity, I have received free newspapers to use in my classroom. I am thankful that your paper offers the NIE program because I have been able to provide my students with presentdate material concerning their community, as well as a variety of genres and topics for students to explore.

I have used your papers in many ways already. Every Friday, my classes have 10-15 minutes of independent reading time. During this short period, students are allowed to select a book, magazine, newspaper, or any of the other materials that I have available in the classroom to read quietly. Many of my students often choose to read the newspaper during this time. In other classes, I have used your papers to study the structure of plot and have even used articles to teach poetry.

Again, thank you for your help and support in my classroom. I look forward to finding new ways to incorporate your newspaper into my lessons.
