Suspects crash in stolen vehicle after chase in Moses Lake

MOSES LAKE - One suspect is in jail and another in the hospital after they allegedly robbed a man, stole his car and later crashed after fleeing from police in Moses Lake.

Grant County deputies were contacted just before 10 p.m. Sunday by a 20-year-old man who reported several suspects stole his vehicle in the 500 block of Castle Drive in Moses Lake.

About 11:45 p.m. Moses Lake police found the stolen vehicle in the 1400 block of Sunset Drive. According to police reports, the driver, Joseph M. Delacruz Kirkman, 19, allegedly fled from officers onto West Broadway Avenue. Delacruz Kirkman then allegedly collided with another vehicle, struck a light pole and drove through the fencing near Big R.

Several people reportedly fled from the stolen vehicle following the collisions. One passenger, Gabriel M. Vasquez, 21, was injured in the crash and was found unconscious in the vehicle, according to police reports.

Vasquez was later transported to a Tri-Cities hospital for a head injury believed to be non-life threatening, according to Capt. Dave Sands.

Delacruz Kirkman was apprehended by police and taken into custody on suspicion of first-degree robbery, first-degree theft, felony eluding, burglary, vehicular assault and hit-and-run with property damage.

Moses Lake police later learned Delacruz Kirkman and Vasquez allegedly robbed the victim before stealing his vehicle. Details on the alleged robbery were not available Monday.
