Big Bend falls to CBC, 78-80

MOSES LAKE - A furious second half comeback by Columbia Basin handed the Runnin' Vikes their second straight loss Wednesday night.
After leading by 18 points at halftime, Big Bend was outscored 37-57 in the second half and the Hawks were able to escape the DeVries Activity Center with a narrow two-point win.
Big Bend's second loss in a row drops the team into third place in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) East region at 3-2.
The Runnin' Vikes shot poorly, only 36 percent from the field, but the team was able to build a large lead in the first half due to holding Columbia Basin to just 30.8 percent shooting.
In the second half, the Hawks were able to find their rhythms and the team's field goal percentage jumped to 53.8 percent.
Sophomore guard Brendan Westendorf scored a team-high 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, but managed to shoot just 30 percent.
Sophomore guard Victor Aguero and freshman forward Sean McDonnell added 20 and 18 points, respectively. McDonnell also grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds.
Big Bend looks to end its skid Saturday when the team travels to Walla Walla. It will be a crucial game as Big Bend, Spokane and Walla Walla all sit at 3-2 in league play.
