ROYAL CITY - Royal's girls scored 35 points twice last week in SCAC basketball action, but they fell twice, 59-35 to Burbank and 64-35 to Connell

"We played pretty good for stretches against Burbank," coach Phil Daubel said. "Tough to win a game against a good team when you spot them an 18-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Like I have said, effort is there, but we have to put a whole game together for 32 minutes to win in this league."

Two good spurts for the Knights were the second and fourth quarters, which they split, 13-12 and 10-11.

The always steady Flor Araujo led the Knights with 14 points and eight rebounds. Brittany Hebdon had seven rebounds and two steals. Becca Lee and Staci Hebdon had three rebounds each.

The Connell game was a runaway until the fourth period. The Knights scored 16 points in that frame.

"We had a couple stretches where we gave up way too many easy transition baskets," Daubel said.

The Knights were 17-for-31 from the free throw. Daubel said they need to do better even though he was happy they got to the line 31 times.

"We only shot 9-for-26 from the field and, with 35 turnovers, we aren't going to win many games," he said. "Our effort is there. We just have to eliminate those bad stretches and turnovers, and we are in the game."

Araujo was the leader again with 10 points, six rebounds and three steals. Jacky Guadarrama had seven points. Brittany Hebdon had six rebounds, and Kailee Harris had five. Dory Floren had three steals.
