BBCC student requests protective order extension

MOSES LAKE - A female Big Bend Community College student who filed a sexual assault complaint against a male classmate, complained the alleged perpetrator is still in school and makes her feel unsafe.

The students do not share any classes and the alleged perpetrator was removed from the dorm they shared.

In a Jan. 6 motion to extend a temporary protective order, the female stated "I am fearful to attend class. I am paranoid to go anywhere. I would feel more safe and comfortable if he wasn't able to be on campus."

The alleged "forcible fondling" incident occurred on Christmas Day 2013 in the female's dorm room. The students involved were acquaintances and had mutual friends.

The male student stated that he was invited to her dorm room and nothing unwanted occurred.

After the incident occurred but before the temporary protective order was filed, the male student reportedly visited her workplace and would not immediately leave when asked.

The victim also complained of threatening text messages the male student sent to her before the order.

Other witnesses at the court hearing stated the male student often gets angry, yells and threatens people around him.

Earlier in the week Doug Sly, a BBCC spokesperson, said the college was conducting its own investigation and that could result in the expulsion of the male student. He did not say when their investigation would conclude.

The temporary protective order was extended until Jan. 28, baring the male student from contacting the female student.
