Reader addresses online comments

I read what comments have been posted online following last week's letter.

One person's comments left me feeling sorry for the person who seems to have admitted that he or she is not religious, and does not believe that our lives are judged by our Creator. If a person does not believe in a "Judgement" then does the person have a basis for morality?

If the person does not believe in a Creator, then does the Declaration of Independence would have a basis? "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

The key words, "by their Creator," does not mean "by their government." Anything granted by the men who run a government can be easily taken away! I am left to wonder whether people who have a desperate need for the government to do so much (health care, unemployment, food, housing, etc.) are people who are seeking a "super mommy to support them." Are they really that incapable of beingĀ  responsible for their own lives?

Are those who believe there is neither a Creator, nor "Judgement," the ones who have no internal restraint, so they pick up a gun and slaughter people due to their own frustrations?
