Wahluke ready for first local robotics competition

MATTAWA - Wahluke Junior High will be hosting its first Vex Robotics Tournament in Mattawa on Saturday, Jan. 18.
Teams from Royal, Toppenish, Sunnyside and Wapato will be joining Wahluke Junior High (WJH) for some friendly competition. With the Washington State Junior High Finals less than one month away, this will be an opportunity to see 20 of the approximate 40 teams competing for the state title.
"Come support your Wahluke Warrior Robotics Teams. Bring everyone along, and make it a family event," Dean of Students Sean Langdon said.
The doors to the WJH gym will open at 7:30 a.m. for teams, inspections will go from 8-9:45, with opening ceremonies at 9:45. Teams will be competing throughout the day with mixed rumbles of four robots on the field at one time.
Each team will attempt to score as many points as possible by placing various sized balls in designated goals and scoring zones.
Concessions will be open up to the end of qualifying rounds with the afternoon culminating in a double elimination finals bracket matchup.
