MOSES LAKE - Student-athletes and parents will have the opportunity to hear about the realities of college recruiting.

National keynote speaker Jack Renkens will be giving a presentation at Moses Lake High School about the dangers and myths of the recruitment process.

"He's kind of been through the ropes and some of the things that happen and some of the pitfalls," said Moses Lake High School athletic director Loren Sandhop. "Somebody's always trying to make a buck and some of those people who are out there they promise a lot and they don't necessarily deliver on the scholarship end of things."

During his presentation, Renken will detail the lessons he's learned during his years as a high school and college coach, athletic director and parent of a high school athlete.

With National Signing Day less than a month away, Sandhop thought it was important to bring a speaker like Renken in to give insight into the world of college athletics.

"It's a heightened time when kids are thinking about it," Sandhop said. "There's a greater awareness about it right now."

The presentation is scheduled to take place Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Moses Lake High School Choir Room and attendance is free of charge.
