Readers believe in angels and gives thanks to community members

| January 31, 2014 5:00 AM

Do you believe in angels? The ones that come in all forms, shapes and sizes. the kind, that walks the earth, seldom heard, seldom seen, everyday people just like you and me. The ones, which do not expect or ask for acknowledgement or any kind of thanks in return for reaching out to another in their hour of need.

I can say that I do. I can attest to their existence, because most recently several of these unseen and unheard angels came to my wife and my aid. I became deathly ill without warning in late July. I was rushed by ambulance, to the hospital here in Moses Lake. Due to my medical condition, I needed to be transferred to another hospital in Wenatchee. I underwent emergency bowel surgery and kidney stone removal. The Doctors did not hold much hope of me even surviving the surgery due to several complications involving COPD etc. However, I pulled through. We lost our jobs as construction zone flaggers because the seasonal work ran out. With no other income, we soon found ourselves homeless and living out of our car.

We lived out of our vehicle for the last three months. The monies my wife received were not enough to pay for an apartment rental. Most of our money was used to put gas in our car to keep us warm at night and my medicines. We slept at the truck stop, on the street in front of my wife's friends place and parked in the parking lot of our Moses Lake Circle K.

We both would like to thank everyone that reached out to us in our time of need.

First, we would like to thank the Mercier and Sawyer family for their help with meals, blankets, help with laundry needs, and for accommodations at the Oasis Motel for a few days when the weather turned cold and wet. Next, we would like to thank both the "Moose" and "Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church for food, clothing and the constant fellowship along with words of encouragement given in our darkest hour.

The Moses Lake (Grant County) Integrated Services for help received in getting me my ABD Disability help with my application for SSI and for helping us get into the Transitional Housing Program. Moses Lake Serve and the churches involved with raising the money needed to get us into Transitional Housing, and household furniture as well as, the Calico Cat for clothing and household donations. Special thanks to the Moses Lake Police Department and the Chief of police for help in keeping us safe at night and with the much-needed help with getting us into affordable Temporary Housing. Special thanks to Gavin, Stephanie, Brittney and staff of the Grant County Housing Authority for their hard work and seeing that we got into their housing program in a timely manner. Special Thanks going out again to the management and all staff of the "Circle K" for everything they did to aid the two of us. The hot coffee on the cold damp nights and use of their washroom facilities were very helpful as well as the friendships formed along the way.

Special thanks to Billy and Curtis for help received and for going beyond friendship. Special thanks going out to Angie from "Our Lady of Fatima" for her donations of kitchenware.

Special thanks to our friend and neighbor Janie for her generous donation of hand and bath towels, fresh eggs and bacon.

We would also like to give thanks to Creator, for help and all these many blessings received. Dear editor, all these people are angels that walk among us. All these people deserve thanks and recognition for their humanitarian deeds they have freely out of love, concern and by the "Grace of God" given to those in need. We often hear excessively, about all the bad things that happen in our community; so when others go beyond to help another in need I feel it is our responsibility as citizens to share the good news.
