MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake fitness enthusiasts have a new place to work out.

CrossFit Four Pillars opened its doors recently and is teaching the "sport of fitness" which includes new strength and conditioning training methodology.

Members will be able to have their results recorded and validated in next month's CrossFit Open, a competition to find the fittest men and women on Earth.

"As the first and only CrossFit Affiliate in Moses Lake, we have focused on teaching the fundamentals to our members so that they can compete safely and effectively in the Open, as well as enjoy a better quality of living, even if they have no intention of competing," owner and head coach Jen Lee said.

The CrossFit Open beings Feb. 27 and runs for five straight weeks with a new workout each week.

CrossFit is different than training at a conventional gym as only coach led, group training is provided. A coach teaches new skills and assesses performance with each class.

CrossFit Four Pillars is also the only licensed CrossFit Affiliate in Moses Lake with CrossFit Level 1 Trainers administering every group class.

Local athletes, such as Dani Crawford, have turned to CrossFit to help provide strength and conditioning training. Crawford, who will be playing soccer for the University of Hawaii next season, has experienced gains in her strength, speed and endurance.

"Crawford is much more explosive now and doesn't get pushed off the ball, even at the highest competitive level," Lee said.

CrossFit Four Pillars provides classes at 6 a.m., 3:30 p.m. (teens), 4:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
