Moses Lake drops non-league game to Hermiston

HERMISTON, Ore. - Moses Lake boys basketball's road record of 3-3 seems to exemplify the up and down nature of this young team.

After a come from behind 78-77 victory over Pasco, the Chiefs once against regressed losing 78-68 against the Hermiston Bulldogs. Head coach John Hohman hopes that his team can level off and play more consistently in the future.

"I think we're better off than where we were last year at this point," Hohman said. "It's just our expectations are totally different for this team. We have higher expectations and they've got to come and compete every night."

The loss drops Moses Lake's record to 5-3 overall. The Chiefs matched up closely with the Bulldogs throughout the game, however Hermiston used a 22-15 second quarter to build an eight point lead entering halftime.

Hohman explained the team struggled defensively allowing Hermiston to shoot 65.9 percent from the field.

"I think it's just a young team and we all have to work together to get the ship righted," he said. "It's nice, we're finally done with our road trip for a while."

Junior forward Mitch Hohman had a strong game scoring a team-high 18 points while shooting a perfect 8/8 from the free throw line. Senior guard Josh Hirz added 16 points and junior forward Tyson Karstetter scored 12 points while pulling down five rebounds.

The Chiefs begin a three-game home stretch Friday when Eisenhower makes its first trip to Moses Lake this season. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Ephrata boys basketball defeated Othello 70-59 in Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) play. The Tigers are now 4-2 in the CWAC and 6-2 overall. Ephrata girls basketball completed a sweep of the Huskies with a resounding 49-24 win. Ephrata girls basketball is now 2-3 in the CWAC and 3-4 overall.

Quincy boys basketball dropped back-to-back games against Chelan 44-41 and Okanogan 66-40 over the weekend. The Jacks are now 0-4 in the Caribou Trail League and 4-5 overall. Quincy girls basketball also fell to Chelan 56-21 and Okanogan 67-13.
