Officers called to disturbance at Moses Lake hotel

| January 6, 2014 5:05 AM

MOSES LAKE - A report of a disturbance Thursday at a Moses Lake hotel led to a short standoff but no arrests were made.

About 9 a.m., Moses Lake police and Grant County deputies responded to a 46-year-old woman at the Interstate Hotel causing a disturbance inside a room. The woman reportedly began throwing items and was angry over the Housing Authority denying her benefits, apparently after already being told she was approved, according to police reports. The woman's son had called 911, telling dispatch his mother was "freaking out."

Based on initial information, it was unclear if the woman was holding someone against their will inside the room or if a weapon was involved and officers drew their weapons "out of an abundance of caution," according to police reports.

Occupants in the hotel were told to stay inside for safety concerns until police were able to enter the woman's room and handcuff her.

The woman was later released because it was determined no crime occurred and she was not found to be a danger to herself or others, police reports stated.
