Sub Vets to hand out awards

ELLENSBURG - Sixteen members of The United States Submarine Veterans of Central and Eastern Washington will be awarded Longevity Pins here next week.

Longevity pins recognize the number of years of membership in the organization.

The ceremony honoring these submarine veterans will take place on Saturday, Jan. 11, in Ellensburg. Social hour will begin at 5 p.m. and be followed by dinner, a brief business meeting and the awards ceremony.

The following men will receive honors for their time in service to the U.S. Submarine Veterans:

Fifteen Years: Mark Briggs, Yakima; Joel Cooper, Yakima; Doug Dahlke, Yakima; Bill Richards, Selah; and Chuck Troyon, Clinton, NC.

Ten Years: Don Rairdan, Kittitas.

Five Years: Mark Delagasse, Naches;  Kelsey Farrell, Kennewick; Bryce Gardner, Quincy; Rob Jacobsen, Yakima; Byron McDonald, Kittitas; Bill Millard, Desert Aire; Lance Knowland, Randle; Bobby Rains, Tieton; Ron Star, Selah; and Rich Womack, Roslyn.

Troyon was the founding (“plankowner” in Navy jargon) commander of the Yakima base, which serves all of central and eastern Washington.
