History repeats itself
If you didn't believe history repeats itself, all you have to do is compare our current situation to 1980. We had an ill-prepared progressive President Jimmy Carter. Just like Obama, he believed he could just talk his way out of problems. His economic policy was to raise taxes as much as possible with his Democrat controlled Congress. Sound Familiar? Carter and Obama both believe in punishing those who make the economy work, and to redistribute tax dollars to those who don't. As the economy got worse under Carter, he basically blamed the American people for not sacrificing enough. Our foreign policy was almost as bad as Obama's "blame America, then apologize" policy. Just like today, America was considered weak around the world. Carter also sided with the Palestinians against Israel. America was the laughing stock of the world as Iran held American hostages for a year and a half. Obama has made it clear he has no respect for our ally Israel and he ignores the fact that Iran is developing nuclear weapons to attack Israel. America was attacked on Sept.11 and Barack and Hillary tell us all it is a misunderstanding over a Youtube video! Both Presidents have the same philosophy about oil production; Stop producing oil, depend on the Middle East, and drive up the price so we don't use so much. The price of gas doubled under both presidents. Some common sense democrats in 1980 realized they needed to put country before party and voted for Ronald Reagan. They were known as "Reagan Democrats". Hopefully there are a few of those people voting this year. I know Mitt Romney is not Ronald Reagan, but he will try to turn this economic mess around and restore our position in the world. He also knows how the economy is supposed to work because he has actually worked in it. I think Clint Eastwood summed up our situation perfectly at the Republican Convention, "When somebody does not do the job, you gotta let 'em go." Just like 1980, we have to stop this madness, before it is too late!

Reader clarifies pedestrian, bicycle laws
First, to the nice couple enjoying a bike ride on the sidewalk in downtown Moses Lake: you are right that in most areas you are allowed to ride on the sidewalks. However, in checking the City of Moses Lake ordinance #10.28.100 you will find that the area you were riding (on Third Street between Beech and Cedar) does not allow riding on the sidewalks. Basically the whole downtown area does not allow it. From Broadway to Third and Chestnut to Cedar. As a frequent walker in the downtown area, I applaud the city of Moses Lake for its efforts in making the downtown area a pedestrian friendly environment and for developing bike paths nearby for those that choose to use them. The community gardens, Sinkiuse Square, Civic Center Park as well as Mccosh Park are all wonderful places to walk. Finally, to the nice couple on the bikes, I apologize if I was impolite in my effort to inform you regarding sidewalk riding in the downtown area. I have had many close calls with bikes, skateboards and with cars at crosswalks and wished to avoid another.

A new school for Othello
A school is the focal point of a community where learning, children and the town converge for the common goal of education.
Reader decries left-leaning education
A recent edition of the CBH provided two good examples of the product of our failed educational system. Both letters to the editor intimate that of the two major political parties, only the liberals stand for advancement and progress. One writer would teach us the logic that Tea Party conservatives only want to look to the past. Both are examples that only a liberal viewpoint is an educated viewpoint and is therefore relevant. Any other is just a halfwit hick's pining for days gone by.

Reader opposes Socialist values
The Socialist's mind worships the idea of Utopia. They live in the future, not in the now or the past. They never look back and own the Totalitarian chaos, deaths, imprisonments, tortures, starvations, poverty their failed Utopian idea creates when implemented. What counts is tomorrow. Yesterday's gone. Refine the idea and try harder!
Reader calls out CBH for child abuse coverage
In light of recent articles in the newspaper regarding cases of child abuse in Grant County, I have been seriously disgusted with the way this news has been handled. Since when is it okay to violate the privacy of minors, especially when they are the victims of these awful crimes? Have they not suffered enough? Instead, this newspaper has decided to let everyone know the gory details of the crimes against them and even go so far as to let everyone know where they live. I do not believe child abusers have the right to privacy. But adding the details about the children whose lives are involved in these cases is wrong. And just because names weren't named doesn't mean it wasn't spelled out in every other way. Shame on the writer of these articles and shame on the editor for printing them without discretion.

Reader questions removal of 'God'
The motto of the United States of America is "in God we trust." One of the two major political parties in this country totally removed the word "God" from their party platform, then had to restore it by a questionable two-thirds majority voice vote on national television. Let us consider what it would mean to completely remove all references to GOD from our government. The words "Right," "Religion," and "Morality" as they existed when they were written in the Declaration of Independence, the United

Reader weighs in on election issues
People need to really listen carefully to what is being said by Mitt Romney and read between the lines. Who's really going to benefit from this election? He wants to cut so many financial benefits and wants people to do for themselves. He doesn't want to raise taxes on the rich and accuses Obama of not doing anything. Well, nobody can fix the economy in four years. Other presidents weren't able to do much about our wars or the terrorists involved in 9/11.
Reader responds to Clay's wolf claims
I would like to refute some outrageous claims Dennnis Clay has been making about wolves in this paper. He says he is looking forward to wolves in our state being removed from the "endangered" list. Mr. Clay states that wolves are a threat to elk herds. This is a patently false accusation, as elk herds can be strengthened by wolf predation. They cull the weak and diseased of the herd. Wildlife scientists have found bone disease in some wolf-downed elk. Additionally, any threat to ranchers is minute at best and just an excuse to hunt wolves. I assume Mr. Clay is "looking forward" to taking his grandkids on one of these "fun" hunts of his.

Reader ponders pipeline problem
What all the political hype basically means, regarding the presumed benefit, necessity and urgency of constructing the proposed Keystone XL pipeline shortcut (a Keystone pipeline already exists), is that we would be granting foreign corportions, from a foreign, if friendly, neighboring country, the right of eminent domain to cross historic farm and ranch land, disrupting, if not displacing, our own citizens therein, crossing our already endangered aquifers, to expedite the transportation of foreign-owned sand tar crude to foreign-owned refineries, for international export in the tax-free Foreign Trade Zone on our hurricane-prone, Gulf Coast.

David Gayle Combs
David Gayle Combs left this earth to be with the Lord, family and friends, on August 30, 2012 at the age of 76. He was born on February 15, 1936 in Duke, Oklahoma to Eugene Wayne and Sylvia Mae Combs. He married his sweetheart Londa Hankins of Fort Worth, Texas on December 22, 1953. He then went on to proudly serve our country in the US Air Force as a bombardier in the B-36 Bomber. After four years in the military, he found his career occupation as a welder in the Boilermaker's Union. Dave had a love for horses; he not only rode and roped but also started a small business raising prized racehorses. The flying bug never left, as he owned several small personal aircraft over the years. Also, you could catch him gearing up for a hunting or fishing trip or a round of golf. In 1991, he discovered Moses Lake, Washington and decided this would be where he and Londa would retire which they did in 1995. Husband, father, grandpa, uncle, son, and friend; Dave or as family called him, Gayle, was special to each and every one of us; his fun-loving personality lit up the room and he will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
