Eagles drop game to Touchet

TOUCHET - The Soap Lake Eagles took one on the chin Saturday as the team dropped a nonleague road football game by 38 points to the Touchet Indians.

"We were basically taught a lesson on how to run the football," coach Joe Worsham said. "They ran over, around and through us for about 500 yards. We obviously did not tackle well and actually didn't block very well, either, so it's back to the drawing board on Monday to try to teach blocking and tackling skills."

Worsham said the team needs to be more aggressive on both sides of the ball if they expect to be competitive on the gridiron this year.

"I think we are being a lot nicer to our opponents than we should be," he said. "Defensively, hitting more often and with more intensity would serve us better ... and running past potential blocks on offense does not seem to be paying off for us either."

On the brighter side of things, the Eagles did get good production out of their backup quarterback freshman Joe Cutshall.

"We put him in during the second quarter,"Worsham said. "And although Joe had some first game hits and misses, he did a good job of moving our offense down the field and into the end zone three times. We now need to build on this game and continue to improve our offensive output."

Soap Lake is back in action Friday when the Eagles host Columbia-Inchelium at 7 p.m.
