Chiefs shut out Cadets

YAKIMA - Alysha Overland scored two first half goals and Caylah Lunning added two in the second half of play to help lead Moses Lake to a 7-0 league road win over Eisenhower Tuesday.

The victory improves the Chiefs to 3-1 in the CBBN standings.

"The girls played their best soccer of the year so far," coach Ric Char said. "We've ironed out a few internal wrinkles ... the team is in a mid-season stride right now ... and looking real good."

Moses Lake got on the board with a goal by Stephanie Overland (Lunning assist) six minutes into the contest. Alysha Overland (Lunning) made it 2-0 with her first score at the 14:48 mark. She added another goal (Lizzy McGraw) at the 20-minute mark to increase the Chiefs lead to 3-0. The score held up through intermission.

Lunning got into the scoring act with two goals in the first seven minutes of the second half. The first came at the 43-minute mark (McGraw), and the second at 47 minutes into the match (Hunter Mauseth) to push the score to 5-0. A goal by Cortney Radocaj (Mauseth) at the 66th minute of action, and one by McKenna Walker (Edith Serrano) at the 71-minute mark rounded out the scoring for the match.

The Chiefs Jeanette Alvarado recorded two saves, and Alysha Overland added one for Moses Lake. The Chiefs had 20 shots on frame to the Cadets five.

"This was a nice rebound game for us after losing to Eastmont Saturday," Char said. "It allowed us to give our sub's a lot of much needed playing time, which should help us a lot down the road."

The Chiefs are back on the pitch Saturday when Moses Lake hosts University Prep at noon at Lions Field.

"This will be a tough nonleague match for us," Char said. "But we've intentionally scheduled some games against the top teams in the GSL to challenge us and make us better against our league competition."

Moses Lake gets back to league play Tuesday when the team travels to Davis for a match against the Pirates.

"Its going to be a battle for first place," Char said. "Davis is never an easy place to play, but the girls will be prepared and ready to go."
