History repeats itself

| September 28, 2012 6:00 AM

If you didn't believe history repeats itself, all you have to do is compare our current situation to 1980. We had an ill-prepared progressive President Jimmy Carter. Just like Obama, he believed he could just talk his way out of problems. His economic policy was to raise taxes as much as possible with his Democrat controlled Congress. Sound Familiar? Carter and Obama both believe in punishing those who make the economy work, and to redistribute tax dollars to those who don't. As the economy got worse under Carter, he basically blamed the American people for not sacrificing enough. Our foreign policy was almost as bad as Obama's "blame America, then apologize" policy. Just like today, America was considered weak around the world. Carter also sided with the Palestinians against Israel. America was the laughing stock of the world as Iran held American hostages for a year and a half. Obama has made it clear he has no respect for our ally Israel and he ignores the fact that Iran is developing nuclear weapons to attack Israel. America was attacked on Sept.11 and Barack and Hillary tell us all it is a misunderstanding over a Youtube video! Both Presidents have the same philosophy about oil production; Stop producing oil, depend on the Middle East, and drive up the price so we don't use so much. The price of gas doubled under both presidents. Some common sense democrats in 1980 realized they needed to put country before party and voted for Ronald Reagan. They were known as "Reagan Democrats". Hopefully there are a few of those people voting this year. I know Mitt Romney is not Ronald Reagan, but he will try to turn this economic mess around and restore our position in the world. He also knows how the economy is supposed to work because he has actually worked in it.  I think Clint Eastwood summed up our situation perfectly at the Republican Convention, "When somebody does not do the job, you gotta let 'em go." Just like 1980, we have to stop this madness, before it is too late!
