EPHRATA - Grant County residents with a sweet tooth can now look to newly opened Doughshinsky's Bakery and Boutique to satisfy their cravings.

Doughshinsky's offers customers a variety of baked goods and sandwiches, as well as a cafe style setting to sit and enjoy them.

"We have a lot of unique bakery things, handmade every morning," said Doughshinsky's owner Marge Scott. "I think people appreciate that."

Scott spent the past 15 years in the Seattle area, where she met her husband Dan. Since Scott is originally from the Ephrata area, the couple decided to move back last year.

"We were going to retire, but that didn't seem like any fun," she said. The space in downtown Ephrata became available, and the Scotts decided to give owning their own business a shot. "It seemed like a good opportunity."

Doughshinsky's has been open for a little over two months now, and Scott said there is already a strong customer base. The bakery has its regulars she said, as well as a predictable lunchtime rush.

Scott said customers seem to enjoy the freshness of the baked goods at Doughshinsky's, adding that everything from the cookies and donuts to the bread for sandwiches is homemade by the couple each morning. The Scotts will also add homemade soup to their menu over the coming weeks as the weather cools off.

But Scott said it's her specialty apple pie and large cinnamon rolls that draw most customers in.

"I've always loved baking," she said. And although this is her first time operating a commercial bakery, Scott said she has fun creating handmade pastries.

"I've never owned my own business," she said. "But I just always liked baking lots of pies and cupcakes."

Douoghshinsky's also sells jewelry, accessories, outdoor garden decor and home items in addition to its baked goods.

Doughshinsky's is located at 11 Basin St. NW in Ephrata. They are open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
