Eagles record first win

SOAP LAKE - David Odarchuk ran for 244 yards and four touchdowns, and Dustin Foster added 113 yards on 10 carries and a score to lead Soap Lake to a 54-24 home win over Waterville Friday.

"We got off to another slow start," coach Joe Worsham said. "But we played a terrific game for the last three and a half quarters to get the win,"

Soap Lake got a first quarter touchdown on a 15-yard run by Dustin Foster (Jason Korneychuk run), but trailed 16-8 at the end of the first 12 minutes of action.

However, the Eagles started to click on both sides of the ball in the second quarter as Odarchuk scored touchdowns on runs of 10 and 80 yards. Nic Kapalo hauled in a 3-yard pass from Joe Cutshall for the Eagles third score. Soap Lake's defense held the Shockers off the board as the home team took a 30-16 at the half.

Odarchuk got his third TD of the game as both teams put eight points on the board in the third quarter.

Soap Lake took a 38-24 lead into the fourth quarter. Up by 14, but the game still far from over, the Eagles hit pay dirt on a 15-yard TD run by Odarchuk and a 50-yard pitch and catch from Cutshall to Kapalo to round out the scoring for the game and secure the team's first win of the season.

"Offensively, I thought we had crisper blocking and much better pass protection this game. Our linemen can take a lot of pride in the fact that we rushed for 465 yards and five TD's," Worsham said. "Defensively, we had more guys going to the ball carrier and we were much more physical this week. We also had our first two interceptions of the year, so we had DB's in better position to play the pass than we have had in earlier games."

The win over Waterville improves Soap Lake to 1-1 in Northeast 1B South Conference and 1-3 overall.

The Eagles are back in action Friday when the team hits the road to Pateros to take on the Billy goats.
