Levita Gauntt

Levita was born in Tonkawa, OK on Feb. 27, 1923 to Ernest & Marguerette Haley. She passed away in Wenatchee, WA on Aug. 21, 2012 with her family at her side.

Levita was preceded in death by her husband, John Gauntt. They were married 68 years.

Levita is survived by daughter, Dawn (David) Smith, sons, Chep (Kay) Gauntt , Kern (Wanda) Gauntt , and Kim (Judy)Gauntt; brother, Virgil Haley and sisters Juanita Kilpatrick and Iva Dell Ferrell; 11 grandchildren & 16 great grandchildren.

Levita & JR moved from Roswell, NM to Moses Lake in 1953. They were some of the many pioneers to come to the Columbia Basin to farm in the Bureau of Reclamation project. They farmed in Block 40 until retirement.

After raising their children Levita & John traveled to Australia, New Zealand and Costa Rica. Levita also became a skier and earned her private pilot's license at age 57. She was an accomplished musician and played the organ at the Moses Lake Nazarene Church for over 40 years.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Moses Lake United Methodist Church.
