ROYAL CITY - Dennis and Barbara Harris of Royal City will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Royal City Church of the Nazarene.

The open house, hosted by son Darin and daughter-in-law Brenda Harris, will begin at 1 p.m. and end at round 5 p.m. All friends of the Harrises are invited.

Both Harrises continue to work. Dennis is farmer at 7501 Royal Slope Road. Barbara is a paraprofessional in the special needs program at the Royal School District.

The Harrises have one daughter, Brenda Harris of Decorah, Iowa. They have four grandchildren: Kayla Harris of Great Falls, Mont., and Cambree, Kailee and Dawson Harris, all of Royal City.

The Harrises were married in Rocky Ford, Colorado on August 19, 1962. They came to the Royal Slope in 1976, and Dennis went to work for Ike and Alice Parker.

The Harrises and Parkers had known each other in Colorado. On a visit back there, Ike spoke with Dennis and said: "You need to quit your job and come to work for me in Royal City, Washington,"

The Harrises packed up everything, including their two children, and moved. After working for the Parkers and Spud Brown, Dennis had a custom grading and combining business and then started his own farm.
