Brewers set beer tasting to benefit young athletes

| September 19, 2012 6:00 AM

EPHRATA - Breweries from Moses Lake, Quincy, Wenatchee and other central Washington communities will offer a taste of their best brews at the second annual Brewers' Harvest Expo on Saturday, Sept. 22.

Brewer's Harvest Expo will be held on the Grant County Courthouse lawn from 3-8 p.m. It will be a fund-raiser for the Ephrata non-profit organization Cumulus, whose mission it is to support school children who otherwise would not be able to play sports.

"In sponsoring this event, we sought to have fun while raising dollars for kids," said Cumulus Chairman Denver Morford. "We believe the best beer comes from the smallest batches and we'd like to share the best of what our local breweries have to offer."

The Brewers' Harvest Expo highlights the growing number of micro/craft brews in central and eastern Washington. Each brewery will pour two to three of its best-known beers.

Admission will be $25, and that will cover six, four-ounce samples. Additional samples can be purchased for $1 each. Sixty-four-ounce "growlers" to take home favorite brews will be $25 each.

The breweries committed to participate are: Ancient Lakes Brewing, Quincy; Brew Haven Brewery, Wenatchee; Icicle Brewing Company, Leavenworth; Iron Horse Brewery, Ellensburg; Roslyn Brewing, Roslyn and St. Brigids, Moses Lake.

Tickets are on sale now at cumulusgiving.org or on Facebook at Brewers Harvest. Visitors can also pay admission at the door.
