Father and son killed in wreck near Ephrata

| September 26, 2012 6:00 AM

EPHRATA - A father and son from Moses Lake died Monday after their vehicle went off the road 10 miles south of Ephrata.

Victor Aguilar Rocha, 47, and Victor D. Aguilar, 19, were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to sheriff's reports, the younger Aguilar was driving north on Dodson Road Northwest when the vehicle drifted toward the east.

He corrected, then overcorrected, which sent the vehicle off the roadway, Grant County Chief Deputy Ken Jones said.

He said that inattention is the most likely cause at this point, but officials are continuing to look for information.

"At this time, we're looking to investigate the true cause," Jones said. "Investigators are going to be reviewing the scene."

The vehicle sheered a utility pole as it left the roadway.

It was found on its roof 35 to 40 feet off the roadway, partially submerged in an irrigation canal, Jones said.

Commuters reported the wreck after noticing downed power lines, officials said.

Dodson Road was closed Monday morning from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. while deputies reviewed the scene.

Grant County Cororner Craig Morrison performed autopsies later Monday afternoon.

Morrison ruled that Aguilar Rocha was killed by blunt force trauma to the head, while his son drowned.
