The Potholes Recreation Area has just started to witness the early signs of the ominous approach of Fall. Nighttime temperatures have been repeatedly near 40f degrees. As the lake continues to drop & cool, it currently sits at 1,028.2 ft. & 18 feet below full pool.

With the seasonal cooling, warmwater fish are triggered to feed in preparation for the long winter. Surface water temperatures have been reported as low as 61F lately. Two weeks ago we were hitting 100F days catching Bass on topwater lures in 80F water. The fall bite for Bass & Walleye has just barely begun.

Trout continue to provide excellent action for trollers and bank fishermen. Dan Estes of Olympia used his favorite lure called a "Canadian Wonder" trolling Medicare Beach for another monster limit of Rainbow Trout coming out of Potholes Reservoir. At the MarDon store we have plenty of #3 NeedleFish for trolling action.

This year our Walleye action has been very tough due to the high water and thousands of acres of new vegetation growth. As of late August those sanctuaries are high and dry. With our cooler fall water temperature late September and early October will provide better fishing across the board, and especially Walleye! John & Robin Stears of Redmond enjoyed landing big Walleye & Perch just the other day on Rapala Shad Raps.

Dove, Upland, & Waterfowl hunting passes are available at MarDon Resort through the Royal Youth Boosters. The passes are $150 only for Dove or $300 for all species combined. Call the resort at (509) 346-2651 or visit the booster's new website www.RoyalHuntClub.com
