MLCA volleyball beats Cascade Christian

MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake Christian Academy (MLCA) played an unwelcome host to Cascade Christian as the Lions turned back the Wolverines in volleyball action Tuesday.
MLCA had a rather easy time with the visiting team from Wenatchee as the home team won in three sets 25-7, 25-7, 25-15.
"The girls have been working hard and have improved a lot since our jamboree September the 4th," coach Dean Spurbeck said. "They have been taking care of the ball better and our defense is improved over last season."
Rachael Verhage led the MLCA attack with nine aces, six kills and 10 assists. Kaneesha Hemerling added seven kills and Anna Yarbro finished with 12 assists.
Spurbeck said Cascade Christian is a young team and is still trying to figure things out, and as such, allowed Spurbeck to substitute liberally in the match.
"We were able to give a lot of girls some playing time," he said. "That's going to help us down the road as they got some much needed experience on the court.'
The win over the Wolverines improves the Lions to 2-0 in league play.
MLCA is back in action today when the team travels to Thorp to take on the Tigers.
