Mayor's wife encourages Fiesta attendance

| September 12, 2012 6:00 AM

I'd like to make use of this forum to extend an invitation to Royal City residents, Anglo, Hispanic, and all to attend the upcoming St. Michael's Church Mexican Fiesta on Sunday, Sept 16, in the park.

This event, for a number of years, has primarily been a fund raiser for the St. Michael's building fund.

Year after year, we are very aware of the condition of our aging building and the need to build a new church or renovate and/or expand our current multi purpose building. The church has long been used for a variety of events, meetings, and social services over the years - a building of the community.

This year's Fiesta begins with a celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the park at 11 a.m. It will be a bi-lingual service. All are invited to attend the Mass.

To those of other faiths who will be attending their own services, we'd like to invite you to join us in the park after your service for excellent Mexican food, entertainment, vendor booths, music, and Karaoke. There will be music, balloons, and candy for the children and a visit from Dora the Explorer.

Numerous bands will provide music throughout the day, and it will be an excellent opportunity to visit with friends and neighbors, and to share our fellowship and cultures with one another.

Santos Guadarrama, St. Michael's Parish Council president, at a recent meeting, stated: "The Catholic Church serves many migrant workers in the community of Royal City. Such an event as this Fiesta is a way that we can offer our thanks and appreciation for the hard work they provide to make our agricultural area a great success."

A raffle of 3 items is also being held during the Fiesta. The prizes are a 50-inch plasma TV, a 14.1 Tablet, and a GPS Navigation System. Tickets sell for $10 each.

We hope to see you in the park on Sept 16 for this Mexican Fiesta. Thank you.
