Wahluke High School students walk through a static display of Washington National Guard military vehicles at last year's Veterans Day Assembly. This year's assembly, open to the public, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 9.

MATTAWA - The 21st Century program at Wahluke High School, an after school enrichment project, continues to grow.

"I'm rolling out 16 programs for the fall quarter, the most offerings we've offered in five years for one quarter of school since we began the program," site director Jay Scott said.

Programs will be offered at different times and locations throughout the week. As of this moment, logistics for some of the programs are still being worked out, but all of the programs will launch in about a week.

Perhaps the most intriguing new program will be Volcano After Dark. It will be a three-day trip to Mt. St. Helens. Students will camp out on the mountain with U.S. Geological Survey geologists.

"We are one of only four high schools accepted from the entire state of Washington, and we're the only after-school program," Scott said.

In another intriguing new program, Electric Guitar Making, students will make guitars and be able to keep them for their own use.

Other programs are Guitar Lessons, Mentoring Program, Auto Detailing Program, SAT Prep Program, Age of Empires Program, PC Repair Program, Mariachi Band Program, Knit Wits, PC/Electronic Recycling Program, Cooking/Nutrition Program and Mothers and Daughters Exercise/Health Club.
