Boaters find body in Columbia River

VANTAGE - A body, which may be difficult to identify because of it advanced state of decomposition, was found floating in the Columbia River by a boater near here late Saturday.

According to the Grant County Sheriff, the boater came across the body at about 6 p.m. and called authorities, Responding Kittitas County Sheriff's Marine deputies located it on the Grant County side of the river about three-fourths of a mile south of Vantage. They helped Grant County deputies with the recovery.

According to the GCSO, the body appears to have been in the water a long time. Deputies were unable to determine the sex because of the advanced composition.

The body was turned over to the Grant County Coroner. He will send it to the King County Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
