Patriots roll past Warriors

COULEE CITY - The Almira-Coulee/Hartline Warriors (ACH) suffered one of their worst defeats at home in recent memory Friday as the team was held off the score board in a 46-0 loss to the Liberty Christian Patriots.

"This was our first home loss in four years," coach Brandon Walsh said. "I don't remember the last time we got shut out,"

The game was close at the onset as ACH trailed 8-0 after the first 12 minutes and was within reach down 16-0 at intermission.

"We were still in the game at that point," Walsh said. "We had a chance to get within eight points just before the half ... had put together a long drive ... but a holding call at Liberty Christian's 5-yardline backed us up and we ended up throwing into double-coverage and the ball was intercepted in the end zone with 10 seconds left on the clock."

Things went from bad to worse for the Warriors as the Patriots exploded for 24 third quarter points to blow the game wide open. Liberty Christian added another six points in the fourth quarter to round out the scoring, 46-0.

"We recovered an onside kick attempt to start the third quarter, but were penalized on the play," Wash said. "That gave them the ball at mid-field and scored on the possession and that kind of took the wind out of our sails."

ACH gets a chance to get back in the win column Friday when the Warriors host a nonleague game against the Entiat Tigers Friday at 7 p.m.

"We will be looking to bounce back in a positive way," Walsh said. "But our focus this week will not be on Entiat. We need to concentrate on fixing some things that will enable us to be more competitive. We had six turnovers against Liberty Christian, and had a lot of penalties that took us out of some scoring drives, but that's what a good team can do against you."
