MOSES LAKE - Two people were injured in an early-morning shooting Tuesday outside Frontier Middle School in what police suspect was a gang-related incident.

Moses Lake Police Capt. Dave Ruffin said a 31-year-old woman and 30-year-old man sustained injuries from a single gunshot just before 3 a.m. near the intersection of West Third Avenue and South Elm Street.

According to police reports, the two had offered to give the male suspect a ride.

"When the suspect exited, he fired a single gunshot, striking the female in the hand," Ruffin said. "The same bullet also struck the male driver of the vehicle."

The driver suffered a wound to the head.

Both victims were transported to Samaritan Healthcare in Moses Lake. The male victim was later transported to a Spokane-area hospital.

"It is unknown the exact extent of the victims' injuries at this time," Ruffin said.

Moses Lake Police Chief Dean Mitchell said that officials suspect that the victims and the alleged shooter were acquaintances and the attack may be gang-related.

As of Tuesday night, police have identified a person of interest and are seeking an arrest warrant, Capt. Dave Sands with the department said.

The case is still under investigation. Police ask anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Moses Lake Police Department at 509-764-3887.
