Chiefs swim and dive takes first at meet

YAKIMA - Coach Tony St. Onge said the team has been showing a lot of improvement the past couple of outings. And the Chiefs continue to impress as Moses Lake turned back all competitors at the triple-duel meet at Davis Thursday, Sept. 20.

The Chiefs cruised to victory beating Davis 150-23, Sunnyside 126-43 and Eisenhower 118-63 to improve to 3-1 and second place in the Columbia Basin Big Nine (CBBN) conference.

"We mixed up the events this week from what the girls normally swim so we could develop more all-around athletes," St. Onge said. "Even though they were not swimming their strongest events, the Lady Chiefs took charge of the meet from start to finish."

The 200 medley A relay team of Grace Hochstatter, Joelle Garrett, Amber Garrett and Torii Dalrymple got thing going for Moses Lake in the first event of the meet with a third-place finish time of 2:06.12. Bailey Hammond, Hailey Griffith, Addy Fair and Jalen Garza took fourth in the B relay with a time of 2:15.03.

The third event of the meet saw the Chiefs Jordan Richeson place second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:13.93. Megan Washburn (2:18.04) was third, and Bailey Hammond, fifth with a time of 2:31.01.

In the 200 IM it was Amber Garrett placing second (2:31.95), Joelle Garrett, third (2:34.78) and Addy Fair fourth with a time of 2:39.94.

Torii Dalrymple placed first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.2. Jalen Garza (28.57) was third, and Mikenna Jones fifth with a time of 30.72.

The fifth event of the day was captured by Moses Lake's Heather Carbon who placed first in the 1-meter dive competition with 124.25 points. Maikke Mensonides was third with 86.15 points.

"Our divers are continuing to perfect their form and build up toward their 11-dive lists," dive coach  Allyson VanMaaren said.

In the 100 butterfly it was Amber Garrett taking second with a time of 1:07.61. Rosalie Ramsden placed fourth (1:14.10), and Addy Fair finished fifth with a time of 1:14.79.

In the 100 freestyle event it was Jordan Richeson finishing first with a time of 1:01.32.

Hochstatter was second (1:01.53), and Allie Knutson, fifth 5th with a time of 1:07.62

The Chiefs owned the 500 freestyle with Kelly Garrett placing first with a time of 5:49.44. Dalrymple was second (6:58.22), and Knutson fourth with a time of 7:15. 06.

The team of Jordan Richeson, Megan Washburn, Amber Garrett and Dalrymple placed first in the 200 freestyle A relay with a time of 1:51.65.

Moses Lake got a third place finish in the B heat with a time of 1:59.46 turned in by the Chiefs Jalen Garza,Fair, Rosalie Ramsden and Kelly Garrett.

Continuing with the strong showing at the meet it was Hochstatter placing second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:10.62, Megan Washburn third (1:12.27) and Bailey Hammond sixth with a time of 1:17.27.

Joelle Garrett took second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:20.40. Mikenna Jones finished fifth (1:25.27).

The last two events of the day saw the Chiefs team of Hochstatter, Joelle Garrett, Washburn and Kelly Garrett place first in the A Heat of the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 4:13.71, and Knutson, Jones, Hammond and Richeson take third in the B Heat with a time of 4:27.77. Alex Mount qualified for district in the 100 butterfly.

Moses Lake Swim and Dive is back in the pool Sept. 27 when the Chiefs host Eastmont at 4 p.m.
