NonaVee was born on August 17, 1927 to Alfred Martin and Minnie Viola Shepherd in Salina, Utah. She attended school there and graduated in 1945. Nonie married her sweetheart, Val. J. Payne, on December 3, 1945 in the Manti LDS Temple. They made their home in Sigurd Utah where they raised their children on the Payne family farm.

In December of 1966, Val and NonaVee moved their family to Warden where she has resided until her death. NonaVee was the mother of 11 children, 3 Sons and 8 daughters. She worked hard as a homemaker all of her life. Some of Nonie's interests were gardening and canning her home-grown vegetables for her family. She loved crocheting and blessed her children and grandchildren with a large afghan for their wedding gifts. She had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. One of her philosophies of life was "It doesn't matter what the question is..... the answer is ALWAYS chocolate!"

NonaVee was a faithful, active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and she willingly accepted callings until she became ill a year ago. She served tirelessly in her numerous callings at the Ward and Stake level, including Relief Society President for the Warden Spanish Branch at age 75! She knew No Spanish, but the women she worked with felt her love and sweet spirit. Her years of service at the Columbia River Temple was especially rewarding to her.

Nonie was a great example to all who knew her. She was a kind, thoughtful, honest, faithful and caring person, who showed and gave love to anyone who came into her life. NonaVee was the mother of 11 children, Jerry (Denise) Payne of Cody, WY, Janice (Eugene) Zirker of Dubuque, IA, Kirk (Suzette) Payne of Poulsbo, WA, Rexene (Stan) Marshall of Moses Lake, Patty (Kent) Marsden of Vancouver, WA, Nesha (Brent) Roylance of Moses Lake, Andrea (Rick) Gale of Kingman, AZ, ValaRee (Gary) Roylance of Moses Lake, Debbie (Clare) Roylance and Kristi (Marty) Whitney of Warden. She has 53 Grandchildren and 88 Great-Grandchildren.

NonaVee was preceded in death by an infant son, Val, and her loving husband of 40 years, Val J. Payne, whom she has been without these past 27 years.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Hearthstone Assisted Living and for the caring hearts of Assured Hospice.
