Man's body found in Warden officials suspect suicide
A 21-year-old Warden man was discovered dead outside this apartment complex on Main Street in Warden Wednesday morning. Grant County detectives continue to investigate his death.
WARDEN - Grant County detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding a 21-year-old man's body found Wednesday.
"We are leaning toward suicide, but, again, this investigation isn't complete," Grant County sheriff's Detective Kim Cook said.
The Associated Press initially reported the death as a murder earlier Wednesday.
Officials received a call late Tuesday night from the 6700 block of state Route 262 near MarDon Resort.
The person calling witnessed a body being loaded into a car before the car sped off.
Roughly 30 minutes later, Warden police officers responded to a call for help at 313 Main Street.
Upon arrival, officials found the body of a man in a car outside an apartment building.
The man apparently died of a gunshot wound.
Officials believe the two incidents to be linked, sheriff spokesman Kyle Foreman said.
The Grant County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation as the initial incident happened in its jurisdiction, Warden Police Chief Rick Martin said.
Cook said there are currently two persons of interest: the deceased's brother and a long-time male family friend.
One subject has undergone a polygraph. His test revealed that he was truthful and was not involved in killing the victim, Cook said.
"We're currently in the process of polygraphing the second individual," he said.
The vehicle where the deceased was found still needs to be searched for evidence. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday to positively identify the deceased.
Chief Martin said his department assisted in the investigation as much as it could to provide support and security.
"Everything that needs to be done in Warden is done," he said Wednesday morning.
