The Fishin' Magician: Summer Chinook

Summer run Chinook fishing is still going strong in Central Washington. Most anglers' efforts are concentrated below Wells Dam, above the dam and off the mouth of the Okanogan River in the Brewster Pool. I fished the Pool recently and had a very slow day. I missed one fish on a herring rig and only landed one small fish later in the day. I left the water with my tail between my legs.

I was having lunch at the Super Stop in Pateros when one of the local guides came in. To my relief he had the same experience. When I left to go to my truck another guide pulled up. He got blanked as well. So, it wasn't just me. We had all be frustrated as there were fish all over the screen on our fish finders, and fish were rolling everywhere. The fish were there, they just weren't biting. I am going to blame it on the full moon.

I have been having good success previously, fishing with herring and dodgers to start with and then switching to Super Baits as the day brightened. The Hot Tamale and Seahawk have been my good colors in Super Baits.
