Reader questions removal of 'God'

| September 14, 2012 6:00 AM

The motto of the United States of America is "in God we trust." One of the two major political parties in this country totally removed the word "God" from their party platform, then had to restore it by a questionable two-thirds majority voice vote on national television. Let us consider what it would mean to completely remove all references to GOD from our government. The words "Right," "Religion," and "Morality" as they existed when they were written in the Declaration of Independence, the United

States Constitution, and the Bill of Rights would be removed from our language entirely. There would be no asking a person to swear or affirm to "tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth" in a courtroom. There would be no requirement for a person to take an oath of office. The requirement that people have a minimum understanding that the Universe exists due to a Creator, and that we shall be held accountable by that Creator for our actions IS reasonable. A person who is unable to understand or acknowledge that our existence is more than just happenstance is a person who totally lacks morality! Please note, this thinking comes from an understanding of the words as defined in Webster's 1828 dictionary that is necessary for understanding of the United States Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Declaration of Independence. Most people would probably object to the United States motto being changed from "in God we trust" to "in nothing we trust"! However, if the current trend by what has become a socialist government continues, then we shall soon have a government that must rule by chains and an iron fist because there will exist no trust in our government officials, or even our fellow citizens!
