Moses Lake girls soccer drops two matches

MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake girls soccer team had a rough outing their last two home matches as the team was shut out in both. The Chiefs lost to Gonzaga Prep 3-0 Sept. 13, and dropped the match with Lewis and Clark 2-0 Saturday at Lions Field.

Lewis and Clark scored its two goals off of counter attacks in the 14th and 34th minute of action while holding the Chiefs top two scorers in check the entire match.

"They played tight defense on Alysha (Overland) and Caylah (Lunning) most of the day, which was really frustrating," coach Ric Char said. "But we played much better the second half and dominated the possession but could not put the ball in the back of the net even with several great opportunities.  It just wasn't our day as Lewis and Clark made the most of their opportunities"

Moses Lake didn't fair any better in the second match of the week as they were unable to put points on the board against Gonzaga Prep Saturday.

The Bullpups scored one first half goal at the 18 minute-mark, then added two more in the second half at the 62 and 77 minute-marks to win going away.

Gonzaga Prep out shot Moses Lake 18 to eight. The Chiefs keeper Jeanette Alvarado had nine saves for Moses Lake.

"Prep is by far the best team we have played against this season. Their speed of play was extremely fast and we were caught off-guard most of the night," Char said. "It was a good test for us and has prepared us the most so far this year for our tough league schedule."

Char said he scheduled both games with the knowledge the Chiefs would play against the top teams in the Greater Spokane League in the hopes that it will prepare Moses Lake to be successful in upcoming league games which begin in full swing this week.

"We have Wenatchee at home today," Char said. "Then we travel to Eastmont Saturday for a makeup match that was rescheduled from Sept. 11 because of all the smoke from the fires in the area."

The match against the Panthers starts a 7 p.m. tonight at Lions Field.
