Chiefs swim and dive second at meet

MOSES LAKE - Swimmers turned in some of their best times of the year in the meet against Wenatchee Thursday but their efforts, unfortunately, weren't enough to propel the Chiefs to a win over the Panthers.

"We knew going in Wenatchee would be one of the top teams in the league," coach Tony St. Onge said. "We were edged out in a lot of races, but they had the ability to double our score and they did."

Wenatchee scored 124.5 team points. Moses Lake finished with 60.5

St. Onge said he's not discouraged with the Chiefs showing as he saw a lot of self-improvement and that the team isn't down despite the lopsided score.

"The girls did what they set out to do as they were close to 100 percent best times," he said. "I told them they could only control their speed and effort and could not control what Wenatchee was doing. They have a strong team that didn't graduate any swimmers and added a few new swimmers who are pretty good. "

Top Moses Lake finishers:

The 200 Medley Relay team of Grace Hochstatter, Joelle and Amber Garrett and Victoria Dalrymple took second with a time of 2:04.01.

Kelly Garrett took first in the 200 freestyle (2:08.74), Megan Washburn placed second in the 200 IM (2:30.37), and Victoria Dalrymple (26.44) finished second in the 50 freestyle.

In the 1-meter dive it was Heather Carbon taking second with 137.5 points. Amber Garrett placed second (1:06.21) in the 100 butterfly, Addison Fair placed first (1:13.05) in the 100 butterfly, Kelly Garrett took second in the 100 freestyle (59.45), and Hochstatter was second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:09.78.

Moses Lake is back in the pool Thursday when the Chiefs travel to Yakima to face the Eisenhower Cadets and Davis Pirates.

"Our focus will be on self-improvement," St. Onge said. "If it is, we'll perform well against them."
