Fresh News From MarDon: Unsteady weather, steady fishing
MarDon Resort - The weather around the Potholes Recreation Area has been uncharacteristic this week, with a roller coaster mix of hot & sunny days and wet & windy weather. This does not however even come close to deterring the fish from biting! The fishing at Potholes Reservoir is ever improving with a drop in the water level. The current water level and weather has stirred many species of fish into action. As of the latest, the water level on Potholes is 3 feet below full pool. Higher than usual for this time of year as there has been less demand for irrigation water so far this season. With the upcoming 4th of July the fishing should be hot and the weather even hotter. This upcoming week is supposed to around the 85F degree mark!

Fresh News from MarDon
The Potholes Recreation Area has been seeing cooler than average temperature, leaving the water high and requiring anglers to bring their rain jackets along with them. The water level on Potholes Reservoir is 1,044.2 Feet which is still very high for this time of year as it is only 2 feet below full pool. With the late June heat and increased irrigation needs the reservoir will be dropping rapidly in coming weeks, making it increasingly more attractive to anglers and boaters. Overall the fishing has been spectacular for Rainbow Trout and Walleye will only improve with lower water. The Bass fishing has been stable but anglers must adjust tactics to account for the higher water.

Richard Fred Grove
Our loving family member Richard Fred Grove joined our Father in Heaven on June 4, 2012. He was a long time Moses Lake, WA resident that moved here in 1980 after retiring from the City of Scobey, MT. We considered him a bachelor cowboy that loved horses, his western hat, western shirts and his cowboy boots. He also had a love for dogs and always had a companion that was very special to him...Chico, Slick, Bubba were very lucky dogs!! He bought a piece of property in Cascade Valley and turned his large garden into a field of flowers that we all enjoyed as he would share them with us. As his aged progressed we asked him to move to an assisted living center and he lived at the Monroe House for 2 years. Eventually he moved to Summerwood and lastly to Lakeridge where he spent his final days at age 85. He is survived by his sisters Dorine Crites of Moses Lake, WA, and Arlene Ferestad of Four Buttes, MT, and his brother Oliver Grove of Denton, MT. He was a veteran of the Korean War and gave to many military charities. His love of family will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews that benefited from his care. God Bless you Uncle Richard...we miss you very much but are so glad you're not suffering any longer and are in Heaven with the rest of your family.

Billie (Bill) E. Sharp
Billie (Bill) E. Sharp went to be with the Lord on June 9th at his home in Moses Lake, Washington, with his loving family around him. Bill was born in Carroll Township, Ohio, on November 2nd, 1939, to Herbert and Noradell Sharp. He grew up in Lancaster, Ohio, and graduated from high school in Ohio before entering the Air Force on July 23rd, 1959. During his years in the Air Force, he was stationed at various places for his training, then stationed at Larson Air Force Base in Moses Lake, Washington. It was there that he met and married Barbara Groff, the daughter of a local farm family. They were married on August 12th, 1962, and got to go to the Seattle World's Fair on their honeymoon. They celebrated several anniversaries at the fair site. Bill and Barbara were blessed with two daughters and enjoyed raising them in the country by Moses Lake. They took many camping trips with their girls during their school years. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Bill worked at various jobs in Moses Lake, including the sugar factory, a lumber supply and auto supply store, before back problems forced him to go to Big Bend Community College, where he received his accounting degree in 1976. He was blessed to get a job right after graduation as a bookkeeper. That job led to another bookkeeping job that he had to drive 40 miles each way every day. When that job ended, he started working as the office manager/bookkeeper at the Moses Lake Golf & Country Club. After sixteen years there, he decided it was time to retire. About a year and a half after his retirement, Barbara also retired and they started traveling with their 27' camper and took a trip across the U.S. all the way to Washington, D.C., visiting friends and family on the way. Five years later they hooked up their camper and left on a trip which took them around the U.S. for a total of 12,414 miles. They visited with many friends and family, and enjoyed many wonderful sights, such as Niagara Falls, Yosemite National Park, Disney World, Mt. Rushmore and many more places. They enjoyed their campground memberships and the many good friends that they made while camping. They could make friends just about anywhere! Bill was preceded in death by his parents, older brother Martin, baby sister Bonnie and many very special aunts and uncles. The newspaper that I get in Mr. McPartland's room helps me because I always look in the police records. It helps me figure out when to watch for burglary or shootings, and it makes me feel safer and more aware. It's really entertaining to me. Also, I like the newspaper because of the comics. Finally, I like the newspaper that I get because of all the news stories that happen to really excite me or worry me. I still love to read the newspaper all of the time. We fished from about 10 until 2 and landed 17 nice rainbow and one triploid that weighed at least 5 pounds! We lost a bunch of fish right at the boat and missed a lot of good hits, too. It was action packed the whole time.

We had a double on our first pass at the flat above Connelly Park. Hit two more fish on the corner further up lake. Picked up one more where the houses are at the northern end of Moses Lake, and picked up the last fish trolling home.
