Man charged in Quincy gang fight

EPHRATA - A Quincy gang member is accused of beating a girl and a rival gang member with a two-by-four during a fight.

Prosecutors charged Julian A. Ortega, 19, with first degree assault in Grant County Superior Court, according to court records.

Grant County Superior Court Judge John Antosz set Ortega's bail at $100,000.

Quincy police responded to a report of rival gang members showing gang-related gestures at each other, according to a Quincy police report. When the officer neared, a witness pointed to a fight in an alley between B and C Streets Northeast. When the officer arrived, he reportedly saw Ortega hitting another man across his arms with a two-by-four.

After the officer drew his weapon and allegedly told Ortega to stop, the gang member dropped the board, He and two other gang members started running. When the officer approached the area, he spotted a girl lying on her back, shaking. according to the police report. The officer reportedly followed Ortega to a residence where he was hiding under a boat.

The girl and male victim were walking on Central Avenue when Ortega and two other gang members reportedly challenged them to a fight, according to the police report. When they entered the alley, the girl tried to get between her boyfriend and Ortega when Ortega kicked her in the stomach and hit her in the face with a board, knocking her out.
