SCHAWANA - A property owner in Mattawa has lost renters three times because of robberies at one of her properties, the latest on May 15, and she claims she gets no help from law enforcement.

Juana Badillo of Mattawa has called the Grant County Sheriff's Office. She said there has been response but too late or ineffective.

According to Badillo, the first incident was very serious. The intruder attacked while a lone pregnant woman was at home.

The intruder threatened to rape the woman but didn't, then put a knife to her throat and threatened to kill family members if she talked. The family moved out.

After a later incident, Badillo took matters into her own hands. She went after the intruder and chased him into the wilds around Schawana.

On that occasion she took the license plate number from an escape van and offered it to the responding sheriff's deputy.

"He said it wouldn't do him any good," Badillo said. "He said the rules of evidence have changed. He said he needed video."

The family that was renting at that time moved out.

After another incident, Badillo went to the home of the mother of the man she says is the robber. She said a brother threatened her life.

"I know who it is," Badillo said. "I tell the authorities, and they can't do anything about it."
