Jeffrey "Rod" Hopperstad

| June 9, 2012 6:00 AM

Jeffrey "Rod" Hopperstad passed away on June 4, 2012. Rod had a tremendous heart and was loved by all that met him. His sense of humor was infectious and always left people laughing.

Rod was born on November 20, 1965 in Yakima, WA. As a child he enjoyed hanging out with his sister and cousins, riding motorcycles and getting into mischief. He spent a lot of time hanging out with family, boating and knee boarding at his uncle's home. He participated in motor cross racing, where he won several trophies. He enjoyed fishing at "fish camp" with his dad and uncles as a boy, and throughout the years continued to enjoy fishing, although he enjoyed catching even more. He was very close with his mother and missed her greatly after her passing. He especially missed just being able to pick up the phone to talk to her. Rod had great adventures with his uncle, exploring the beaches of Hawaii and Mexico. Rod had a love for music. His father first showed him how to strum a guitar. As a teen he was a member of a band, which allowed him to hone his skills. He became an avid player that loved to rock out with his electric guitar cranked up. Sometimes he would even play you a song over the phone. He shared weekly conversations with his sisters over the telephone in recent years.

He worked in a variety of industries, including orchard work in Mattawa with his uncle, real estate with his father in Yakima, construction, and manufacturing in Moses Lake. He met his wife, Ann in 1995, while working at Takata. They were married in 2004. He was a total dog lover and together they enjoyed raising their 3 dogs, Crash, Lenny and Dewie. They also spent a lot of time working on their home together.

Rod was a wonderful husband, son, brother, and friend. He will be greatly missed.

I love you forever, my Roddy. Love Anny Bells.

Rod was preceded in death by his mother, Sylvia Hopperstad; his father, Denny Hopperstad; grandparents Aarthun Rod and Norma Hopperstad and Sonny and Norma Olney, and his niece, Isabella Arzaga. He is survived by his wife, Ann; sisters Laura (Rob) Thornton, Lyn (Memo) Arzaga, and Sabrina (Anthony) Jackson; stepbrothers Scott (Lisa) and Steve Bateman; stepmom, Mary Hopperstad; and his nieces and nephews, Samantha and Brock Thornton, Anthony and Michael Arzaga, Jake Santjer, and Andrea and Ashley Jackson; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A memorial gathering will be held Sunday at 2:00 pm at New Beginnings Christian Center, located at 381 W. Northshore Drive in Moses Lake.
