Chiefs basketball performs well in Wenatchee

WENATCHEE - The Moses Lake girls summer basketball team opened their season in fine fashion taking three of four games at the 17th annual Wenatchee Tournament last weekend.

Game one saw the Chiefs overcome 20 turnovers and pull out a 36-34 win over Cashmere. Sadie Nielsen led the offensive attack for Moses Lake with 10 points. Carina LeFave had eight points and four rebounds, Jessie Loera added seven points, six assists and four steals, and Emily Olson finished with five points and seven boards.

Jessie Loera knocked down 17 points and had five steals, and Sadie Nielsen added 14 points and four rebounds to help lead the Chiefs to a 40 point win over the Wildcats in game two.

Moses Lake committed 11 turnovers in the game, but they had no impact on the contest as the Chiefs won in a cakewalk.

Kaitlyn Stevens contributed seven points and eight boards, and Emily Olson finished with five points, five rebounds, six assists and two steals.

Poor percentages from the floor and charity stripe, along with 11 turnovers, were the downfall for Moses Lake as the team dropped game three of the tournament by 27 points to the Lady Bears from Central Valley.

"The team did not shoot the ball well when opportunities presented themselves," coach Matt Strophy said.

Emily Olson was high scorer for the Chiefs with nine points.

The turnover shoe was on the other foot in game four of the tournament as Sehome mishandled the round ball 15 times.

The miscues allowed the Chiefs to come away with a  15 point victory and gave Moses Lake three wins in four tries. Jessie Loera led the way once again for Moses Lake with 11 points and five steals.

Alysha Overland added eight points in the win for the Chiefs.

 Moses Lake is back on the hardwood June 8-10 when the Chiefs take part in the Gonzaga Shoot out  in Spokane.
