MOSES LAKE - Comedy enlisted in the fight against cancer is the inspiration behind the Boob Tour, which arrives in town June 23 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Civic Center auditorium, 401 S. Balsam St.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased from Terry Moore, 509-765-3343 or 509-989-2287. Proceeds will go to the Moses Lake Relay for Life, said James Uloth, Boob Tour founder.

The Boob Tour got its start after a different fund raiser yielded disappointing results. Uloth launched a fund raising drive after his best friend's mother died of cancer in 2007. But by the end of that year he'd only raised about $500.

Uloth thought there might be a better way, so in 2010 he took $500 and started a comedy tour he called the Boob Tour.

Comedians Susan Rice and Gabrielle Rutledge will appear with Uloth in Moses Lake. Uloth said that since its inception the tour has raised more than $250,000 for cancer research and helping cancer survivors.

A story published in the Herald's special Relay for Life section described Uloth as possessing "mad ninja skills." But, "I'm not so ninja-like anymore," he wrote. Oh, back in the day maybe, but all those flips and midair twists are hard on knees and - well, "I find it hard to keep my black suit black as I mix my laundry," he said. "No nunchucks or pajamas, just laughs and high fives," he said.

"It's become an unstoppable force powered by laughter. I wanted to create something special and unique. I've achieved that, and I'm very happy," he said.

"I didn't realize how many peoples' lives I could change with the power of laughter. Instead of making a bar or promoter a bunch of money with my comedy, I'm able to get those funds to people who really need it to fight illness and make their lives better."
