Dogs fifth at Desert Classic

EPHRATA - The Columbia Basin River Dogs finished 1-3 in pool play at the High Desert Classic Tournament in Ephrata last week.

The team lost to Tri-County 5-2 Thursday, to Hanford 6-1 and Walla Walla 11-1 Friday, then bounced back to beat Hanford 7-6 Saturday.

The three loses dropped the River Dogs in to the consolation bracket Sunday, where Columbia Basin shutout Kent 8-0 and turned back Hanford 8-4 to finish fifth in the tournament.

The River Dogs are back on the diamond today and tomorrow when the team travels to Yakima for the Firecracker Wood Bat Invitational.

The first pitch against the Kent Bull Dogs at Parker Field at Yakima Valley Community College today is scheduled for 11 a.m.

The River Dogs play Seattle Select Friday at LaSalle High School at 11:30.

Columbia Basin will host the North Washington Senior Babe Ruth State championships at Johnson-O'Brien Stadium in Ephrata July 5-7.

Pool play teams areĀ  Anderson Hay (Ellensburg), Puget Sound Roxx, Wilder Baseball (Port Angeles) and theĀ  River Dogs

Tournament schedule

July 5: Anderson Hay vs. Wilder, 5 p.m.; Roxx vs. River Dogs, 8 p.m.

July 6: Roxx vs. Wilder, 10 a.m.; Wilder vs. River Dogs, 1 p.m.; Roxx vs. Anderson Hay, 4 p.m.; Anderson Hay vs. River Dogs, 7 p.m.

July 7: Pool No. 2 seed vs. No. 3, 10 a.m. in a loser out game.

The winner of the contest plays the No. 1 seed at 1 p.m. Both teams qualify for regional play in Kent July 12-16.
