Walleyes take two from Sun Devils

MOSES LAKE - It was a beautiful day for baseball Monday when the Walleyes hosted Pasco/Chiawana at Larson Field.

But the results of the doubleheader made it more delightful as Moses Lake took both games from the Sun Devils, much to the delight of the sparse home crowd.

The first game of the evening saw the Walleyes take a 2-0 lead after three innings of play.

The Sun Devils closed the gap to 2-1 with a run in the top of the fourth.

Moses Lake responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to stretch the score to 6-1. Pasco/Chiawana answered back with a run in the top of the sixth to make it 6-2, but the Sun Devils were held scoreless in their last at bat and dropped the first game of the twin bill.

Trino Rubio had the hot bat for the Walleyes going 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple to spark a four run fifth inning for Moses Lake. Eric Huberdeau finished with 3 RBI in the contest. Jacob Price went the distance for the win, striking out six Sun Devils.

Jacob Price had two doubles and four RBI to help lead the Walleyes to a come from behind win in the night cap. The Sun Devils took an early 1-0 lead after and inning and a half.

But the Walleyes bounced back with two in the bottom of the second to go up 2-1. Pasco/Chiawana responded with three runs in the top of the third to retake the lead 3-2.

The Walleyes added two in the bottom of the inning and two in the bottom of the fourth to go back up top 6-4.

The lead changed hands for the fifth time in the game as the Sun Devils hung three runs on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning to make it 7-6 in favor of the visiting team.

Moses Lake answered the bell with four runs in the bottom half of the frame to take a 10-7 lead.

Neither team scored over the last inning and a half as the Walleyes pulled out the win.

Chase Tunstall was credited with the win. Tanner Gonzalez came on in relief to record the save.

The wins over the Sun Devils improves the Walleyes to 7-4 on the summer season.

The team was back on the diamond for doubleheader action Tuesday in Wenatchee, but the results were not available at  press time.

The Walleyes host a twin bill against Yakima at Larson Field Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
