City of Moses Lake resists tribal gas station

MOSES LAKE - A proposed tribal gas station and convenience store has continued to see resistance from city council members.

Tribal Trails Travel Plaza, which the Colville Confederated Tribes has brought to the city's table, submitted an environmental assessment to the city which council members picked apart.

Among the tribes' claims of no significant impact to the area, council members have cited several discrepancies in the report's accuracy.

The city pointed out four different findings that the Colvilles assumed the city's utilities would be available, then flatly wrote in a letter that the city has not agreed to provide such services.

Also in question is whether large truck fueling would take place on site, noise complaints and the proposed ratio of local employees and Tribal commuters.

So far, the city intends to petition the land labeled in trust, and hopes to take up the measure at tonight's city council meeting starting at 7 p.m., at the Moses Lake Civic Center, 321 S. Balsam St.
