ROYAL CITY - It's anybody's guess what Royal City will be like in 50 years, but inhabitants then will be able to glimpse the community now, or 50 years before their time.

Mayor Mike Stark and his wife Barbara are organizing a time capsule that reflects this time period. It will be buried during the Royal City SummerFest Celebration this year.

The capsule will be 12 inches by 3 to 4 feet, depending on what is collected for the project, Stark said. Items received so far include a photo and receipt of grocery staple items such as bread, eggs, milk, cheese, potatoes, meat, etc.

Also included are an iPhone, digital camera, daily planner, menus from local restaurants, picture of and receipt from Mack's Mocha, schedule of the library and a current paperback novel, map of Royal City, city utility bill, PUD bill, a current phone book, a disposable diaper, bottled water, gasoline receipt, July issue of Seventeen Magazine, Ladies Home Journal, HandyMan, and Esquire, as well as current local newspaper and a newspaper of the national news, a DVD and a CD.

"If you would like to add to the fun, brainstorm with family and friends," Stark recommended.

Bring items, stories, current photos and ideas to city hall and leave them with Sherrie or Kelly. Items will be placed in zip-lock bags and placed in the capsule which will be buried during a little ceremony at the Friday night festivities at SummerFest. The time capsule will not be opened until 2062, 50 years from now.

"Imagine your grandchildren and great-grandchildren seeing what life was like in Royal back in the olden days of 2012," Stark said.
