Reader invites people to attend event

I would like to invite the public to the Relay for Life event on June 8 and 9 at Lions Field. As we bring this Relay season to a close, I would like to say thank you to our hard working committee and all of our teams who have done many fundraisers to raise not only money, but awareness of the need for better treatments and a cure for cancer.

Please join us as we walk to remember those we have lost to cancer, to celebrate those who have beaten the disease and encourage the fight in those that are currently battling. Sometimes hope is all there is when you are dealt the cancer card.

The opening ceremony starts at 6 p.m. with a survivor lap directly after opening ceremonies. I invite you to come celebrate with our survivors and stay and enjoy the festivities and then help us remember those we have lost during our Luminary Ceremony at 10 p.m.

There will be lots of fundraising going on around the track and in the food court so bring your dollars to donate and help give back to the American Cancer Society!

We are also collecting canned food before the event. The canned food is used as a anchor for our Luminary Bags which honor our loved ones who have battled cancer. The food is then donated to charities who help those going through treatment. If you have canned goods you wish to donate, please call Josie at 509-989-6286.
