OTHELLO - Come next month, the Potholes Reservoir Golf Resort in Othello will be on the auction block.

The state Superior Court approved the gavel sale last Friday, June 15. The property, along county Highway 262 SE, will be up for bid at 10 a.m., July 27, at the Grant County Courthouse.

"This development began in the mid-2000s," commercial real estate advisor Louis B. Fisher III said, whose firm is handling the sale.

"As in the case of many development projects, when the real estate market began to shift and change - not necessarily for the good - a lot of developments have suffered some financial strain."

The resort is nearly complete and Fisher said the buyer will be an experienced developer who can mitigate through the project's completion.

"It's a nice project. What's left to be completed is very minimal, and the people that live there by and on the golf course think it's one of the best areas in the marketplace," he said.

The 15-hole course is still three holes short, and nearly 70 percent of the excavation work is completed, said Greg Haynes with the resort.

"I have a lot of people who have had an interest it in and are looking to coming and make a bid," he said. "The project is very viable and has a good chance of being completed with the right owner and additional monies."

Fisher has similar hopes.

"It's definitely going to sell," he said.
